My name is Nick Giecek,,I'm a therapeutic recreation major here at UT.

we created this program to help make recreation here at UT more accessible and more inclusive for people of all ability levels.

We've partnered pretty well with the Future Program, so we have a lot of their students who come to our class to gain those recreation opportunities that they've been looking for.

Adaptive sports or adaptive recreation are just sports that have been adapted or altered just to fit the ability levels of everybody participating.

The one word to describe the first day of class is just awkward.

A lot of people don't really know how to interact with each other, they don't know what's appropriate.

And then by the end of the eight weeks, everyone is just totally intertwined, and everyone's interacting with each other.

Both students with and without disabilities learn to interact in the

world cohesively with all of each other.

The growth they go through in just an eight weeks span is tons of fun for me to see, it's truly fitting what we wanted to do with this class in terms of educating students without disabilities and offering recreation opportunities for students with disabilities.

I was just a student who likes sports and just wanted to do anything with that, and having a background with a twin brother with his disability, and then just having a love for sports, I was able to combine these two passions just by learning about the T-R program here, and just all the hands-on opportunities that UT and the therapeutic recreation program have to provide, really helped me find my passion in life, really helped me find my career and what I want to do with life and how I can make a difference in the world.
