摘要:Born in 1970 in a Xuzhou village, Yin Xiaoxing contracted polio at eight years old. Although suffering from permanent paralysis of his lower limbs, Xiaoxing wanted to live independently. In 1991, he set off alone in his wheelchair to travel across China. So far, Xiaoxing has traveled over 76,000 kilometers and across 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, even Hong Kong and Macao. Currently, he is raising funds for his autobiographic movie, The Sixth Trip to Tibet.

Xu Xiake-Alike

Headmaster

A farmer from Dong Xinzhai Villiage, Ping Xiang County in Hebei, Mu Mengjie was blind at a very early age. At 13 years old, Mengjie left his hometown with his cane in hand and started performing as a street artist. 18 years later, he returned home with nearly one million Yuan in savings. Understanding the difficulties faced by the blind in rural areas, he started a school to assist the blind to become more independent. So far, 247 blind students have graduated from his school.



IT Whiz

At 23 years old, Zou Shiyong currently teaches computer classes to the blind in Wuhan City. When Shiyong was three years old, his eyesight started deteriorating from eye growth retardation until he became completely blind at 12 years old. Transferring to a school for the blind, he learned to use screen reader software specially designed for the blind. Through self-instruction and additional help of teachers, he became skillful in computer repairing, software programming and built up an online BBS. At present, Zou Shiyong and his team are dedicated to developing computer games for the blind.



Plastic Weaving Craftsman

During a business trip when he was younger, Wu Fengzhang became blind overnight due to exhaustion and depression. With no money to get home, he set up a roadside stand weaving grass into insect art. To his surprise, Fengzhang’s artwork was well received by many people. He used his grass weaving success and spring boarded into weaving art from obsolescent x-ray film. Now 62 years old, Fengzhang is a renowned folk artisan and earns over ten thousand Yuan each year thanks to his persistent efforts.


Photographing Lover

At a young age working in the countryside, Jin Hao lost his left hand in an accident. Unemployed for a long time, Jin Hao eventually found that he was very sensitive to nature, his surroundings, and people. Now at 63 years old, he is able to capture very touching photographs. His love for photography has grown and now Jin always has his camera by his side. He feels passionate about his life, travels to many places, and records his footprints with his camera.


Inner Painting Artist

At seven months old, Sun Zhicheng suffered from a disease of unknown origins. Now 27 years old, she can only move her arms and hands slightly. Even with this disability, she wanted to make a living on her own and attended a painting training course for bottle interiors. After practicing, she was able to pick up brushes, open a paint box and dry pigments up. This was a huge improvement from not even being able to grab a brush! Now, her paintings of bottle interiors have gained recognition in the art market and her continuing goal is to become a master in this art.


Cobbler

Yan Binglin was born in Shuanglin Village of Loudi City in Hunan Province. At the age of three, he suffered from limb dysfunction due to polio. When he was 17 years old, he learned how to repair shoes and opened his first shoe repair store in Loudi City. Furthermore, he purchases quality materials from Jiangsu and Zhengjiang province to ensure his repaired shoes are of high quality and fine appearance. In fact, the shoes that Binglin repairs are as good as new shoes. Although he has relocated many times, there are still many loyal “fans” sending him shoes to repair.
